Description

As opposed to a compound locomotive, a “simple” always displayed a more spectacular start, as the once-used steam was thrust into the atmosphere. Here is one of the SNCF’s American-built 141 R “Mikados” demonstrating her pure force. The simplicity of these locomotives also contributed to their long service lives and their popularity, as well as reduced maintenance costs.
