Description
The French Turbotrain (gas turbine) was an attempt to achieve high performance without electrification. In its early days, it was a success, and some examples were even built for the USA for use on the old New York Central lines. However, after the 1970’s oil crises, its high consumption of fuel made it less and less attractive to operate. To note: the first prototype TGV was powered by a gas turbine.
